According to reports reaching here, 15 armed naxalites, accompanied by an equal number of militants, entered into the exchange and blasted it using detonators around 3 a.m. Later, they set fire to part of the equipment, which was found to be intact after the blast, by dousing it with diesel collected from a generator set. A senior BSNL officer said here that this C-Dot 256 exchange blasted by the PW was hardly one-year-old. Residents, mostly tribals, tried to prevail upon the naxalites for sparing the telephone exchange. Even the building in which the exchange was set up belonged to a tribal farmer. However, the naxalites did not relent. They put up a banner near the exchange claiming to have resorted to arson as part of the PGA anniversary week celebrations.
