Polytechnic students seek job quota

Pondicherry Dec. 17. Students of the Motilal Nehru Government Polytechnic (Commerce wing) and a women's polytechnic today abstained from classes and took out a procession, demanding that the Government ensure jobs for diploma holders. from Lawspet to the town to meet the Chief Minister N Rangasamy to urge the Administration to ensure jobs for the diploma holders.

A section of the students told newsmen that in the past students of diploma in commerce wing could get admission to the second year (lateral admission) in the undergraduate course (B.Com) but the authorities had withdrawn the facility. A quota should be ensured for them in recruitment to the posts of the Lower Division Clerk or Store Keeper.

The students said that they had been abstaining from classes since Monday and would continue their agitation if there was no positive response.
