Vehicles for police stations in towns soon

HYDERABAD Dec. 11. The Home Minister, T. Devender Goud, has said that all the police stations in the towns would be provided soon with vehicles for better patrolling and expeditious service, on the lines of the Rakshak and Blue Colts now operating in the twin cities.

He said all the police stations too would have new vehicles as a part of the Government's initiative to modernise the police force. He was speaking after launching newly acquired vehicles for the National Games 2002 here on Wednesday.

Mr. Goud said the Government acquired 2,300 new vehicles in the year 2001 and 2002 for giving it the police force. So many vehicles were never provided in such a short period to the police force, he said and expected the police to reach the place of offence within 10 minutes with the addition of these vehicles.

To increase the efficiency of the traffic police, he said modern gadgets would be provided to them. As a part of it, cell phones would be provided to officers up to the rank of sub- inspectors.

He said the Government has also decided to send policemen to the residences of the complainants to register the complaints. He asked the police commissioner to ensure that facility starts from January 1, 2003.

The DGP, P. Ramulu, said each police station in the State would be provided with a jeep soon. The Addl D.G (P&L), Girish Kumar, said new vehicles were being acquired spending Rs. 24 crores so as to ensure that each police station in gets a vehicle each.

Later, the Minister flagged off over 300 vehicles acquired for the National Games and these would be given to the city police and the Ranga Reddy police later. These vehicles included Commander jeeps, Mahindra jeeps, Toyota Qualises, Tata Sumos, Maruti Gypsies, Hero Honda bikes and Eicher buses.
