Addressing the cadets at the closing ceremony, the Deputy Director-General of NCC, heading the Secunderabad directorate, Air Cmdr. G.S. Nijjar, expressed happiness that the NCC movement was getting patronage from students, as a result of which, the cadet strength had gone up to 13 lakhs in the country. He recalled the progressive steps initiated by the Defence Ministry in the recent past and referred to the commitment expressed by the Minister, George Fernandes, in taking the movement to as many students. Mr. Nijjar, while congratulating the organisers of the national camp on the proper execution of the itinerary, made it a point to openly admire the beauty and serenity of Tirupati. Songs and dance sequences in the cultural programmes section echoed a tinge of patriotism and sought to explain the `unity in diversity' concept. The multi-lingual songs and the ethnic dance forms reflecting the tradition and culture of various regions drew the attention of all. Cadets from as far places as Jammu took part in the camp. Mrs. Nijjar gave away medals to cadets and directorates who excelled in various competitions. Lt. Col. Rajiv Sadasivan, Camp Commandant, 29 Andhra battalion of NCC, Tirupati, and Lt. Col. Raju took part. With the exception of Orissa, North-East and Punjab directorates, 674 cadets from the remaining 13 directorates in the country took part in the camp.
