Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Rajendra Chenni, Head, Postgraduate Department of English, Kuvempu University, and member of the committee, said it was the responsibility of the State Government and the district administration to ensure that the status quo was maintained. He said the BJP leaders' suggestion went against the High Court order which had made it clear that nothing should be done to disturb the present arrangement and that the status quo as it prevailed before 1976 should be maintained. Prof. Chenni said that members of the Bababudangiri Souhardata Samavesha would meet the authorities with a request that nothing should be done to disturb the status quo. He said that over the years Bababudangiri had remained a fine symbol of communal harmony with the Hindus, Muslims, and people of other faiths treating it as a place of worship. Prof. Chenni regretted that the Sangh Parivar was trying to convert Bababudangiri into a nerve centre to spread communal politics.
