`Mahithi Sindhu' instructors' stir off

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Dec. 11. Discussions held on Tuesday had "amicably settled" the demands of "Mahithi Sindhu" instructors, an official release said.

According to the Director, Public Instruction (Research and Training), the striking Mahithi Sindhu computer instructors met with NIIT, Aptech, and Educomp Datamatics representatives on Tuesday.

Earlier, instructors got Rs. 1,800 to Rs. 2,000 per month. But with effect from December 1, the monthly salary for instructors with less than a year's experience would be Rs. 2,700 and for those with over a year's service, Rs. 2,900. New recruits would be paid Rs. 2,550 a month for the first six months and Rs. 2,700 per month for the next six months.

To compensate for days lost during the strike, the instructors had agreed to work on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and other holidays, the release said. Those who went on strike would not lose their jobs nor would their salary be cut. But this would not apply to "termination (of jobs) due to specific misconduct or moral turpitude..."

The release added that the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, B.K.Chandrashekar, the MLCs, Madhusudhan, Shiva Shankar, and Chennabasavaiah were present at the talks.
