Scientist dead

NEW DELHI DEC. 9. Noted space scientist, S. Ramnath, died here this evening. He was 70.

A close associate of Vasant Gowariker, S. Dhawan and Brahma Prakash, he was Director (Project, Planning and Evaluation Group) of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. He was one of the key persons in the PSLV and GSLV space programmes. He was the younger brother of Nobel laureate, S. Chandrasekhar.

After retirement, he served as consultant to the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and was closely associated with the publication of its `Technology Vision-2020'.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.
