By Our Staff Reporter

Dharmapuri Dec. 9 . The 25 naxalites including five women who were arrested in Uthangkarai in the search operations held on November 24 and 25 were produced in the Uthangkarai judicial magistrate's court today and their remand was extended till December 23.

Initially, five persons — Martin alias Tamilselvan, Murugessan, Balan, Prabhakaran, Duraisingavelu — presently under Q branch custody and lodged at the Kallavi police station were produced before the judicial magistrate, Ambedhkar, and their remand was extended.

This was followed by five women — Rita Mary, Sathya Mary, Amalorpavam, Vijaya and Jayanthi Mary — who were brought from the Vellore Central prison.

The women raised slogans condemning the police, Parliament and politicians.

In the afternoon, the remaining 15 lodged in the Salem Central prison were brought and their remand was also extended.

Based on the submissions made by the Q branch police seeking custody of Shekar, Suresh, Vinayagam, Manivasagam and Kumar alias Venkatesh, the judge ordered police custody of the five till December 11.

Police resisted press photographers from taking photographs of the arrested persons.
