CPI(M) for swift action by STFs

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE Dec. 9. The State Committee of the CPI(M) has expressed serious concern over the killing of the former minister and JD(U) leader, H. Nagappa, while he was being held captive by the forest brigand, Veerappan.

The Secretary of the party's State Committee, G.N. Nagaraj, has, in a press release said it was a tragic turn to the hostage drama and appealed to the governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to take swift action by directing the STFs to swing into action.

The State was facing a critical situation and the people should maintain the peace.

CPI seeks probe

Expressing shock at the tragic death of Mr. Nagappa, the State Committee of the CPI has demanded a CBI enquiry into the killing, as well as the resignation of the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna.

The Secretary of the party's State Committee, Siddanagouda Patil, has, in a press release blamed the Government for its "complacent attitude" which ended in the death of Mr. Nagappa.

Dr. Patil said that soon after the release of Rajkumar by Veerappan, the Government should have honestly worked out an action plan and launched an all-out effort to nab the brigand.

Dr. Patil alleged that the Government had failed to evince the same interest in the matter of obtaining Mr. Nagappa's release that it showed when Rajkumar was abducted.
