Govt. directive on power bill payment

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DEC. 9. The Government has asked all departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) to remit their electricity charge within the prescribed date every month from January 1, 2003.

An official press note which announced this here today also allowed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to discontinue the power supply to the Government offices and PSUs which defaulted the payment.

The Government departments and public sector units in general have so far been adopting a cavalier attitude towards their power bills. Several of them had run up huge bills and owe the KSEB lakhs of rupees by way of bill arrears. They had been avoiding disconnection by invoking their Government connection. It is in the context of the severe financial crisis being faced by the Board that the Government had been forced to take the tough pay-or-face-action decision.
