Speaking at the function, the noted writer and historian, Ramachandra Guha, said Mahatma Gandhi's concept of "Gram Swaraj" was relevant even today. Gandhiji's dream was that rural people should remain in villages and close to Nature. Increasing urbanisation was affecting the environment, he added. Aradhya Shivacharya Swami of Sirigere Math said simple living was the key to environment protection. Man should give back what he had taken from Nature so that environment was not destroyed. Man should live in harmony with Nature, he added. The former member of the Planning Commission, L.C.Jain, Siddalingaiah, poet, the journalist, Nagesh Hegde, were present. The editor of the newsletter is Shudra Srinivas.
