Gujarat complies with EC's order

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 9. The Gujarat Government has informed the Election Commission that it had complied with the Commission's directive and transferred the Superintendents of Police of Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts.

According to sources, the State had also sent a panel of names for being appointed in their place and accordingly the Commission had approved the names of A. Karval and R. Savani. The Commission ordered the transfer of two police officers on the ground that their continuance in the two districts on December 12 would not be conducive for holding free and fair elections and the State sent a compliance report.
