Four held for kidnapping

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI DEC. 9. Four persons, allegedly involved in kidnapping and car-jacking reported from Hauz Khas in South Delhi on November 24, have been arrested by the South Delhi police.

According to the police, the accused -- identified as Irfan (24), Munna (22), Mohan (23) and Manoj (19) -- were arrested by a team led by Inspector Rajender Singh of the Special Staff of South Delhi police from Andheria More in Mehrauli on Saturday.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that Mohan, who works with notorious dealers in illicit liquor, Billa and Bittoo, based in North Delhi, wanted a fast and easily manoeuverable car to boost the prospects of smuggling and joined hands with Irfan gang for the purpose.

After surveying possible targets, the gang zeroed-in on Ramesh Sharma, a Vasant Vihar resident who owns a travel agency. On November 24, when Ramesh was going in Santro car, he was stopped by the car-borne assailants on Africa Avenue. They asked him for directions and before Ramesh could go on his way, they intercepted his car. Ramesh was bundled on the rear seat and they drove for about an hour and dumped Ramesh after tying him up with seat belts near Manesar in Haryana. Ramesh managed to report the incident to the Hauz Khas police only next morning.

Investigations have revealed that Irfan has been involved in over a dozen cases of murder, dacoity and robbery in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. His gang also committed a robbery in Mumbai and two in North-East Delhi.

The police are now making efforts to try and nab Billa and his other associates.

Another incident of car-jacking reported from Kalkaji in South Delhi on November 18 has been worked out with the arrest of Irshad Khan (25) by the South Delhi police.According to the police, Irshad was arrested from near his house at Paschimpuri in West Delhi on Friday.

The police said Irshad and his associates, Om Prakash, Virender Rawat and Babu, had robbed Gautam Kalra of his car after firing at him. The gang had been studying Gautam's movements since quite some time. Two days prior to the incident they had tracked his journey from Lajpat Rai Market to his home in Kalkaji and decided that the safest place for committing the crime and escaping was near his house.

Irshad's other associates are still at large. The gang targets rich businessmen and after tracking their travel route strike at a desolate place.

The robbed car, the car used in crime and other robbed articles have been recovered from the accused.

Efforts are now on to nab his absconding associates.
