Govt. committed to development: CM

By Our Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD DEC. 9. Politics should not interfere with development activities, as the politics of confrontation will never do any good to anyone, the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, has said.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme, organised by the Kasaragod Press Club here this morning, Mr. Antony said the Government is committed to transforming the State into one of the most developed ones in the country. The Government, under no circumstances, will mix politics and development activities and expected the wholehearted cooperation from the opposition parties in this regard, he added.

The Government is also committed to formulating and implementing special projects aimed at the overall development of the Malabar region, in particular the backward districts of Kasaragod and Kannur.

The UDF Government came to power at a time when the State was passing through its worst-ever financial crisis. However, the UDF Government has been able to change the situation to a certain extend and give a new lease of hope to farmers.

"I shall be meeting the Prime Minister and the Union Agriculture Minister next week to specially discuss issues relating to the agriculture sector," Mr. Antony said.

Areas like tourism, professional education and cottage industries should go a long way in taking the State to the top in development matters. Reacting to a question on the suspension of Shobhana George, MLA, Mr. Antony said it was a matter for the KPCC chief to respond.
