Man shot dead

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI DEC. 8. A resident of Chauhan Bangar, who had been arrested in a dacoity case by the Chandni Mahal police last year, was allegedly shot at by one of his accomplices in that crime when he went to greet him on the occasion of Id in the Seelampur area of North East Delhi this afternoon.

The police said the victim, 28-year-old Feroz, had gone out to greet his friends and relatives on Id. It was while he was returning home and was passing by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi office on Brahmpuri Road in Seelampur along with two of his friends, that he came across around 10 youth who were standing there.

One of these was Qayyum, who had been involved in the dacoity, and was arrested by the Chandni Mahal police on the basis of a confessional statement of Feroz. Since then, Qayyum had been nursing a grudge against Feroz.

And so when Feroz went up to him instead of exchanging greetings, he shot him with a countrymade weapon. Feroz was taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, where he is stated to be "fit for statement''.

The Seelampur police have registered a case of attempt to murder and launched a search for Qayyum, who is absconding.
