By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Dec. 8. The Union Minister of State for Railways, Bandaru Dattareya, said that mechanical cleaning of tracks and platforms would be introduced soon in 15 railway stations in the Western Railway with private participation. However, he made it clear that no retrenchment would take place.

Speaking to reporters here today, he said Eureka Forbes had been identified for the job and the work would start with the Ratlam station in Madhya Pradesh. The programme was a part of the "Operation Cleanliness'' project initiated by the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee.

He said the mechanised cleaning would expedite the cleaning work taking just 15 minutes to clean the tracks and the platforms. In the second phase, some more stations would be added and they included Bhopal, Nagpur, Patna, Moghalsarai, Allahabad, New Delhi, Kharagpur, New Jalpaiguri, Erode, Chennai, Guntakal, Vijayawada and Ahmedabad.

He said Rs. 100 crores had been earmarked for the project.
