Addressing a press conference here today, the Metropolitans said that the faction would not cooperate with the three-member committee appointed by the KPCC to resolve the fracas between the Orthodox and Patriarch factions. If Oommen Chandy and P.P. Thankachan, UDF convener and KPCC vice-president respectively, were removed from the committee and other members appointed in their place, they would cooperate with the committee. Besides Mr. Chandy and Mr. Thankachan, the other member of the committee is the AICC general secretary, Vayalar Ravi. The Metropolitans who addressed the press conference included Yohanon Mar Militius, Metropolitan of Thrissur Diocese, and Poulose Mar Pakomios and Abraham Mar Sevarios, Metropolitans of Angamaly Dioceses. They said the Government had failed to implement the court verdicts in respect to certain churches at Kadamattom, Kolenchery, Mulakulam, Kanyattunirappu, Idukki, Punnamangalam, etc. Referring to the investigation into the murder of T.M. Varghese, an Orthodox leader at Perumbavoor, the Metropolitans said that they had met the police officers and were assured that the culprit would be arrested soon. The indefinite fast would be undertaken by the two Metropolitans of the Kandanad Dioceses (East and West), Thomas Mar Athanasius and Mathews Mar Sevarios.
