He was the last surviving brother of the Pallavoor trinity, experts in instrumental music. His brothers, Pallavoor Kunhikuttan Marar, died two months ago and Pallavoor Maniyan Marar died two years back. With the death of Appu Marar, the famous music trinity has now become part of history. He had been keeping indifferent health for quite some time. Appu Marar has headed the panchavadyam of the Paramekkavu Devaswom of the famous Thrissur Pooram for the last 40 years. His brother, Kunhikuttan Marar, had led the opposite side, the Thiruvambady Devaswom. The body was kept at Vallangi in Nenmmara for the public to pay their last respects. The body will be cremated at the Ivar Madhom on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river on Monday. Appu Marar had won a number of awards including the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 1983, the Guruvayurappan Puraskaram in 1995 and the Manaveeyam Award in 2002. He is survived by wife Lakshmikutty Amma, three daughters, Shilaja, Valsala and Latha, and three sons, Kunissery Chandran, Vijayan and Kaladharan. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, and the Minister for Cultural Affairs, G. Karthikeyan, expressed profound grief at the death of the gifted artiste. Mr. Karthikeyan will attend the cremation.
