Maintenance grant sought for hospital

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL Dec. 8. The General Hospital Development Society, which met under the chairmanship of the Collector, G. Sai Prasad, here on Sunday expressed its displeasure over non-release of maintenance grant for the last seven quarters. The maintenance grant due from the Government mounted to Rs. 1.68 crore.

The hospital authorities told the society that because of erratic release of funds from the Government, the hospital defaulted on payment of money to contractors for the works executed.

The pending bills were valued at Rs. 18 lakhs. The society decided to write to the Government to release the amount to solve the financial problems of the hospital.

In another major decision, it was decided to shift the clinical laboratory of the Biochemistry Department to the General Hospital from the college.

The Superintendent, K. Ramachandra, requested the principal, Somasekhar Reddy, to spare one professor, an assistant professor and a demonstrator to help run the biomedical lab in the hospital round-the-clock since the lab was renovated at a huge expenditure.

The principal offered to shift the entire lab to the hospital, which would improve the service.

Also, the society cleared the proposal to provide site on the hospital premises for the blood bank being established by the Indian Red Cross Society.

The collector said the Red Cross had an amount of Rs. 17 lakhs for the centre, which would be utilised.

The society released amounts for purchase of defribletor for the Acute Medical Care Unit, oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders, cots and mattresses for the newly-constructed pediatric ward and repairs to colour Doppler in the department of cardiology. Also, the society cleared the proposal to appoint a doctor for the cardiology on contract basis and a data entry operator for bio-medical lab.

The body extended the contract of the diet supplier by two months and tenders would be called for selection of fresh diet supplier. The MLA, T.G. Venkatesh, and others were present.
