Five - fold fine

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI Dec. 5. The Union Cabinet today decided to increase the fine for ticketless travel in trains five-fold — from Rs. 50 to Rs. 250. An amendment to the Railway Act for this will be made soon.

The Union Minister and Cabinet spokesperson, Sushma Swaraj, said the fine amount had been kept low since as per experience, ticketless travel was a problem mainly in short distance travel.
