The magistrate, S. Sivakadaksham, ordered the remand with instruction that Mr. Guru be produced before the XIV metropolitan magistrate in Egmore, Chennai on December 12. In all, 12 persons, including the PMK president, G.K. Mani, MLA, were wanted in connection with a case registered by the Vepery police allegedly for obstructing the Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust, appointed by the High Court, from discharging their duty. Mr. Mani surrendered before the metropolitan magistrate court at Egmore on November 25. Others who surrendered before the magistrate along with Kaduvetti Guru today were the Vanniyar Sangam's functionary, Kaduvetti N. Ravi (32), A. Kalian (26), K. Manikandan (26) and S. Shanmugam (26). In his surrender petition, Mr. Guru said that he was a law-abiding citizen and an MLA, and had not committed any offence. The respondent, Inspector of Police of the Vepery police station, was trying to arrest him to spoil his name and fame. Later addressing presspersons, Mr. Guru claimed that the case had been foisted on him. Hundreds of supporters of Mr. Guru who had gathered before the court raised slogans against the arrest. All of them were later taken to the Tiruchi Central Prison under tight ecurity.
