New Delhi Dec. 5. The President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, today greeted people on the eve of Id-ul-Fitr.

``After fasting and prayers for one month, Id-ul-Fitr is the day for thanking the Almighty and spreading his love among fellow human beings through prayers, goodwill, generosity, kindness and charity.

``On this happy occasion of the festival in Id, I send my greetings and best wishes to all our people in India and abroad,'' Dr. Kalam said.

Mr. Shekhawat said the sharing and charity associated with the festival exudes the spirit of caring, brotherhood, love and compassion, which would go a long way to ensure the welfare of humanity.

In his message, Mr. Vajpayee said: " the festival brings with it the message of universal peace, tolerance, brotherhood and compassion".
