'Govt. jobs will be scarce'

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI DEC. 5 . Government and the public sector, as a major employer, will no longer be the reality under the changing economic scenario.

Apart from providing access to products and services from all over the world, the forces of international trade and globalisation were touching every aspect of life. Under the circumstances, government jobs "will and should be scarce" and the emphasis would shift to non-government sector, the Union Finance Secretary, S. Narayan, said here today.

This, however, should not cause concern to the youth as the services sector offered tremendous employment potential.

Delivering the convocation address at the Madras Christian College (MCC), he urged the youth to remain committed and make a difference to society in which injustice posed a major challenge. Presenting a report on the activities of the college, its Principal, A. Mantramurti, said the MCC was planning to augment its potentials in evolving a comprehensive scheme for providing consultancy on areas such as service learning and human resource development.
