PSC to probe appointments

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DEC. 5. The PSC has decided to collect details of the temporary appointments made to Government departments, public sector undertakings and cooperative institutions.

The Commission, which met here on Wednesday, described these appointments as unauthorised and said that they had been made on temporary, contract or daily wage basis.

It pointed out that the rules permitted temporary appointments from the employment exchanges if PSC list was not available for any post.

Even for that the non-availability certificate of the PSC had to be obtained. The meeting drew attention to a recent ruling of the High Court, which directed that if PSC lists existed, appointments had to be made from them even if they were temporary, or to posts which were not permanent.

The Commission stated that it was in these circumstances that it was collecting details of the temporary appointments. It also proposed to take action on the basis of it.

It also decided to place the facts before the Government, get the unauthorised appointments cancelled and report all the vacancies to the PSC.
