`Regulate working of minority institutions'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Dec.5. The BJP State unit has demanded an all-party meeting for evolving a comprehensive policy to regulate admissions and appointments in minority educational institutions, keeping in view the recent Supreme Court judgment. The court in its 300-page ruling had gone into Government aid, admissions, appointments and quota fixations in these institutions.

K. Laxman, MLA and party general secretary, told a press conference here on Thursday that the Government should constitute a committee to go into various aspects before evolving guidelines on regulating minority educational institutions. A comprehensive policy was necessary as many of these institutions being run by `pseudo-minority' societies had become centres for commercialisation of education.

He alleged that many of these institutions which mushroomed in the recent past were exploiting rules and regulations giving a go-by to the founding principles originally enunciated. They were not benefiting the genuine minorities but only helping the rich.

The legislator, who is also official spokesperson of the BJP, stated that the all-party meeting should also go into issues such as holding of the EAMCET, delayed counselling for BEd admissions, constitution of governing councils of the universities in the State and implementation of the career advancement scheme.
