Mufti sees change in U.S. approach

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Dec. 5. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today said he saw a remarkable change in the approach of the U.S. towards the State.

Talking to reporters at an Iftar party hosted by the Governor, G.C. Saxena, Mr. Sayeed expressed satisfaction at the visit of the U.S. Ambassador, Robert Blackwill. The visit, he said, had a clear message for India and Pakistan and it was different from his previous tours to the State. The U.S. approach towards the State had undergone a remarkable change. This trend seemed to have commenced following September 11. The U.S. Government was ready to help end terrorism and restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir and was willing to assist the State in development.

Terming his visit to New Delhi as "quite useful", the Mufti said: "The Centre has assured us of its support." At a Cabinet meeting late this evening, the Chief Minister briefed his ministerial colleagues on his discussions with the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers.
