`Navy prepared to meet any challenge'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Dec. 5. The Indian Navy continued to maintain a `fair amount of preparedness' and was ready to act at the shortest notice if the situation demanded, Rear Admiral S.K.K. Krishnan, Director, Defence Machinery Design Establishment, has observed here.

Responding to queries on `Operation Parakram', he said that the Indian Naval forces had full control of the Arabian Sea. "We are very mobile and can throttle the enemy's designs at the shortest of notices,'' he told presspersons at the Navy Day celebrations here.

The Indian Navy commemorates its daring attack on the Karachi Harbour during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war as Navy Day on December 4. "In that attack, we acted decisively against Pakistan and surprised the international community. After that, Indian Navy has never looked back,'' he said.

For this year's celebrations, the Navy has chosen `Tacking to the Blue Waters' as the underlying theme.

In consonance with the theme, Rear Admiral Krishnan said the Navy was equipping its fleet with wherewithal to deal with any kind of threats from the seas and safeguard the country's maritime resources.
