Addressing a press conference here today, the federation president, C. N. Balakrishnan, said that the exhibition was organised as part of countrywide khadi exhibitions, seminars and meetings by the Khadi Commission on the occasion of 75th anniversary celebrations of khadi. The total cost of the exhibition was expected to be about Rs. 35 lakh. The exhibition aims at solving the lack of proper understanding among the young generation about the Independence struggle, Gandhian style and khadi, and also for organising awareness among the young Gandhian developmental activities to increase interest in `swadeshi' products. The exhibition will showcase photo-exhibition depicting the independence struggle, Gandhi mandapam containing Gandhi literature wing, production process of village industries as well as sale of village industries' products. There will be a rebate of 30 per cent on all khadi items. The exhibition will showcase all types of khadi products from all khadi institutions in the country. There will be stalls of Khadi Commission, BSNL, Forest Department, Health Department, Farm Information Bureau, Kerala Agricultural University, Bamboo Corporation, ANERT, DRDA, district industries centre, SC\ST Corporation, Oushadhi, district panchayat, medical college and Directorate of Visual Publicity will be among the pavilions of Government institutions in the exhibition. There will be a total of around 300 stalls among which 150 will be related to khadi. The exhibition will be formally inaugurated by the former Chief Minister, K. Karunakaran, MP, at 5 p.m. on December 7. The Khadi and Village Industries Minister, C. F. Thomas, will preside over the function. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, will inaugurate the valedictory function of the exhibition on January 5. The Khadi Commission chairman, Mahesh Sharma, the Khadi Commission office-bearers, State Ministers, MPs and MLAs were expected to attend the function. A ticket rate of Rs 5 will be charged from each person. Schools and colleges will have a discount of 50 per cent on ticket rates.
