Row leads to tension

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE MAY 17. Tension prevailed at Gopalapura in Magadi Road police station limits on Saturday when people belonging to a particular community objected to the erection of a pandal and hoisting religious flags by people of another community.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), G.B.Chabbi, people of a particular community had put up flags and buntings and erected a pandal for a religious discourse.

A group of youths of the other community insisted that the pandal and flags, which were obstructing traffic should be removed. There was a heated exchange of words between the two groups leading to tension in the area.

Senior police officers accompanied by additional forces rushed to the spot, held discussions with the two groups and pacified them.

"The buntings and flags were subsequently removed," Mr. Chabbi said.

No untoward incident was reported from the area, he added.
