According to a complaint lodged with the Harohalli police on Friday, the girl was raped at Sontenahalli village while she was on her way home from the fields, police said. But the girl's parents kept the matter a secret all these days. Acting on the complaint, police arrested one of the accused, Umesh, and the hunt is on for the others.
Boy dies in mishap
In a road accident caused by a stray dog in Ashoknagar police station limits early on Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was killed and his father injured. According to police, Naveen Kumar of Sultanpalya was riding pillion on the motorcycle his father, a hotelier, was riding. As the rider tried to avoid a stray dog that suddenly darted on the road near a petrol bunk in Ashoknagar around 12.30 a.m., he lost balance and fell down along with his son. Naveen suffered head injuries in the mishap and died on the way to hospital, police said. Naveen had passed the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on Friday, in first class.
2 held for cheating
The Sadashivanagar police arrested two persons, who had allegedly cheated the State Bank of Mysore's Sadashivanagar branch of Rs. 22.50 lakh by producing fake documents. Police said that Prabhu G.P. (49) of Katriguppe and G.N.S.Sharma (49) of Hanumanthanagar borrowed a loan of Rs. 22.50 lakh from the bank in December 2001 by producing fake sale deeds of a building in Malleswaram. When they did not repay the loan, the bank authorities lodged a complaint and the police arrested the accused. While Prabhu is a hotelier, Sharma is a businessman.
Ornaments recovered
The Byatarayanapura police recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.50 lakh and Rs. 50,000 in cash by arresting three persons on the charge of robbery. The names of the arrested persons were given as Prashanth Kumar (22) of Pattegarpalya, Umashankar (32) of Sampangiramnagar, and Lakshamma (40) of Moodalapalya. The accused attacked houses of lonely women and robbed them of cash and valuables, police said. The recovered property belonged to Bheema Bai (50), a resident of BDA Layout in Girinagar police station limits, police said. A key member of the gang is at large.
2 arrested
The Rajagopalnagar police arrested Krishna Murthy (30) of Yeshwanthapur and Basha (25) of Thigalarapalya on a charge of house break-in and theft and recovered gold ornaments and silver articles worth Rs.15,000 from them.
