`Police should be more professional'

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE MAY 17 . Cities such as Bangalore had to come to terms with the increasing crime rate, the City Police Commissioner, Mariswamy, said here on Saturday.

Addressing members of the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mariswamy said it was well known that many criminals were sheltering in the City, and this meant that the Police Department should function in a more professional manner and be always alert.

He said he had received several complaints from the public about how the policemen behaved with them whenever they interacted with them. He would initiate programmes to ensure that the policemen responded in a sensitive manner to the public.
