irregularities in the shop during a surprise inspection. The Minister, during the surprise check at around 6 p.m., found that the medical shop was not exhibiting the mandatory price list and was selling unauthorised medicines. The Minister also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the `bed-roll' contractor as penalty for stacking the bedrolls on platform two, thereby obstructing the free movement of passengers. Similarly, a private catering contractor was fined Rs. 5,000 by Mr. Moorthy for keeping materials and utensils and thus obstructing the free movement of passengers on the platform. The Union Minister was accompanied by the additional general manager of Southern Railway, A.K. Pande, and the Divisional Railway Manager, K. K. Srivastava, during the inspection. Railway sources said Mr. Moorthy arrived at the central station to board a special saloon attached to the Malabar Express to proceed to Kollam to inaugurate the Computerised Reservation Centre at Kottarakara and to lay the foundation stone for the remodelling of the Mavelikara railway station tomorrow. The visit and inspection at the central station came as a surprise to the Divisional Railway authorities as the Union Minister was scheduled to proceed to Kollam by road.
