Deputy Prime Minister arriving today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM May 17. Security has been beefed up in the capital for the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, on Sunday.

All security measures that are normally implemented for the visit of VVIP's such as the President and the Prime Minister have been put in place for Mr. Advani's visit. A rehearsal of the VVIP convoy movement was conducted today from the airport to the venues where the Deputy Prime Minister is to attend various functions, police said.

Mr. Advani, who is scheduled to arrive at the airport here at 11-15 a.m, will unveil the statue of K. Sukumaran at a function to be held at the University Stadium at 3 p.m.

Later, the Deputy Prime Minister, will inaugurate the `Navathi' celebrations of the BJP leader, K. Ayappan Pillai, at 4-15 p.m. at the Tagore Theatre.

Mr. Advani will leave for Delhi tomorrow itself.

Traffic curbs will be in force in the capital in view of the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister, according to police.

Parking arrangements

The City police have made elaborate arrangements for parking the vehicles bringing people for the public meeting to be addressed by the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, at the University Stadium here on Sunday.

Vehicles coming from the National Highway 47 and the Main Central Road should stop at PMG junction to allow passengers to get down and then proceed through Law College junction, Patoor and Pettah and park 100 metres away from the Chakai bypass junction, said a release quoting the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic (North).

Vehicles coming from Neyattinkara, should proceed via Killipalam, Attakulangara, East Fort, Pazhavangadi and Statue. The passengers should alight on the Statue-General Hospital Road and the vehicles should proceed via Patoor and park at the Enchakkal bypass.

Vehicles coming from the Nedumangad side should proceed via Peroorkada, Kaudiar and Vellayambalam. People must get down at the Althara junction and proceed via Vazhuthacaud, Xanadu, Rose House, Panavila, Bakery junction and General Hospital junction and park the vehicles at the Enchakkal bypass.
