The yatra entered Rajahmundry town of East Godavari district on Saturday evening to a tumultuous welcome. Thousands of people lined up the road-cum-rail bridge across the Godavari connecting Kovur and Rajahmundry to welcome the CLP leader. A tired Dr. Reddy, suffering from acute amoebiasis, slowly trudged on. His physical discomfort tells on his face. "The stomach pain is severe,'' he complains in a weak tone. The AICC is bound to take several things into consideration in chalking out its strategies in AP, senior Congress leaders accompanying him say. It is now certain that the party cannot remain complacent after the padayatra. It needs to further the agenda by devising more intense political activity. The AICC general secretary, Vayalar Ravi, who was till recently in-charge of the AP Congress affairs, told The Hindu, "The yatra has generated a tremendous goodwill for us. It is knitting our leaders also together and effective post-padayatra strategy shall be worked out''. He is confident that the new in-charge of the party in the State, Ghulamnabi Azad, and the CLP and PCC leaders would make a great team. Meanwhile, speculation on the creation of a regional committee for Telangana within the party is gaining more ground. There are many takers now. The Telangana issue and the dissident activity remain the vital concerns of the party. The Congress leadership seems to be of the view that the Telangana question may not afterall lead to any heart burn in the rest of the State though initially there was apprehension over this matter. It is now certain that once the padayatra is over these two issues would be addressed to the satisfaction of all sections.
