Minister gets a taste of public ire

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI MAY 17. K.N. Gaddi, Minister of State for Forests and the district in-charge, had barely recovered from the KPCC Chief, B. Janardhana Poojary's public dressing down recently when he had a brush with public ire, here on Saturday.

This happened during his visit to ward 51. He was accompanied by Jabbar Khan Honnalli, Congress MLA and the President of the Hubli-Dharwad Corporation District Congress Committee, and Prakash Kyarakatti, Mayor of Hubli-Dharwad.

Ward 51, where the city's beef and fish markets are located, is represented by Mr. Kyarakatti. It is also a part of the Hubli city Assembly constituency, which Mr. Honnalli represents. During the trio's tour, Mr. Gaddi was gheraoed by area residents who demanded to know why they had not been provided even the most basic amenities. They pointed to the huge pile of rubbish created by beef sellers, the clogged drains, and the terrible stink in the area.

They remonstrated that the promises made to them by Mr. Kyarakatti and Mr. Honnalli had not been fulfilled. They asked why it was not possible for corporation authorities to remove the garbage from the area and evict encroachers from the roads.

They demanded that either the slaughterhouse located in the area be shifted or the waste removed.
