KPRS stir on May 21

By Our Staff Reporter

Bangalore May 17. The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) Secretary, G.C. Bayya Reddy, today criticised the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre for removing quantitative restrictions on imports before the deadline set by the World Trade Organisation, and said this was to the detriment of farmers.

Addressing presspersons here, he, along with the KPRS Joint Secretary, N. Venkatachaliah, and the district unit General Secretary, R.R. Manohar, said that the Centre had not only decided to privatise sectors, including power, but also pressure the States to follow suit. This, they said, had caused misery to the people.

The sangha, Mr. Reddy said, would organise agitations such as processions, road blockades, and taluk-level bandhs on May 21 in protest against the import policy, increase in power tariff, metering of power consumption, privatisation, and loan recovery, and demanding ration cards for poor families and comprehensive drought relief measures.
