By Our Staff Correspondent

JAIPUR MAY 17. Alam Shah Khan, an eminent litterateur and member of the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission, died in Udaipur on Friday night. He had taken over as the Commission's member on March 24, 2000.

Prof. Khan had retired as the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities in Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, in 1996. He was an office-bearer in several Akademis and had bagged the distinguished litterateur's honour of the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademi in 2002.

He was one of the leading story writers in Hindi in the country and had played a significant role in bringing Rajasthan to national eminence in this field. Many of his stories have been translated into English and regional languages; and a movie on his story ``Mini Mahatma'' is under production.

The State Human Rights Commission paid tributes to Prof. Khan and commemorated his contribution to Hindi literature and protection of human rights in the State.
