Woman's forum to move SC for time-frame to solve dowry cases

New Delhi May 17. A leading women's organisation today announced that it would approach the Supreme Court to fix a specific time-frame to solve all dowry-related cases pending before lower courts across the country.

``We will approach the apex court to fix a time-frame for the lower courts to solve all dowry-related cases and implement the Dowry Prevention Act with more vigour,'' Mahila Dakshata Samiti president, Suman Krishan Kant, said at a function here to felicitate the Noida girl, Nisha Sharma, who called off her marriage at the last moment following excessive dowry demand from the bridegroom's party.

Describing as ``criminals'' the people who demand dowry, Ms. Kant said it was the right time for women and the new generation to stand up against the age-old evil practices unitedly and punish the guilty.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Nisha said she was very happy with her decision since the groom himself had later ``confessed that he was marrying her only because of dowry.'' — PTI
