Take littering fine in right spirit: Semmalai

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI FEB. 11 . The Health and Education Minister, S. Semmalai, today appealed to the public to join hands with the Chennai Corporation in maintaining a clean city.

Speaking after inaugurating a health centre constructed at a cost of Rs. 8.42 lakhs and a multi-purpose hall at the Corporation Boy's High School at a cost of Rs. 12.2 lakhs on Gangadeeswarar Koil Street in Purasawalkam, the Minister said the civic agency's move to levy "administrative charges" against those littering the streets must be taken in a positive spirit. He lamented that despite levying a token fine of Rs. 10, defecation in public places was a common occurrence.
