Factionalism in Bidar Cong. unit denied

By Our Staff Correspondent

BIDAR Feb. 11. While denying the existence of factionalism in the district unit of the Congress, the Bidar District Congress Committee (BDCC) President, Basavaraj Bulla, today declared that party leaders would work unitedly for the success of its candidate, Rajashekar Patil, in the Humnabad byelection.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Bulla emphatically said that there were no factions and reports about them were a creation of the media.

Apart from the Minister of State for Energy, Basavaraj Patil Humnabad, who is also the district in-charge, with whom Mr. Bulla has differences, others who were present at the press conference were Mr. Rajashekar Patil and the former legislators, Mohammed Laiquddin, and R.S.Manohar.

When presspersons pointed to the differences between him and Mr. Humnabad, and the opposition the "third front" leaders had voiced against fielding of Mr. Patil in the byelection, Mr. Bulla claimed that no one had opposed the ticket to Mr. Patil.

"Now that the party has decided to field Mr. Patil, it is our duty to work for his success," he said. Mr. Bulla warned that action would be taken any leader of the party found working against its candidate.

Asked whether the absence of leaders such as Bheemanna Khandre and Gurupadappa Nagamarpally at a party leaders' meeting held earlier in the day to discuss the election strategy, indicated the existence of groupism in the party, Mr. Bulla replied in the negative. "They had told me that they could not attend the meeting," he added.

Mr. Bulla said it was decided at the meeting that the entire DCC would function as the campaign committee and that he would be heading it.

The meeting passed a resolution welcoming the appointment of B.Janardhana Poojary as KPCC President. Mr. Humnabad said that the prospects of the party candidate were bright.
