Kerala
By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement here today, Mr. Bhargavan also disputed the DGP's claim that the law and order situation in Kerala had improved and alleged that the claim had come at a time when mafia gangs and flesh traders were having a field day in the State. He also accused police personnel in different parts of the State of offering protection to mafia gangs and the underworld. The CPI leader said maintenance of law and order was fundamental to governance. The Government was duty-bound to protect the life and property of the people. The DGP, however, seemed to think that the Government did not require a policy or a clear-cut perspective. If that were so, there was no need for a Minister to handle law and order, he added. Mr. Bhargavan said the Chief Minister should clarify whether he concurred with the DGP's views and, if not, he should remove Mr. Joseph from the post.
