dated February 12, 1953: K.M. Munshi stresses importance of English

Dr. K.M. Munshi, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, addressed on the 9th in Ahmedabad a gathering of the students of Gujarat University. Mr. Munshi gave sound reasons in uttering a warning to the whole country against the "blunder and crime" of disregarding the importance of the English language in instruction and education. The agitation against that language, he said, only betrayed a narrow attitude. Mr. Munshi continued, "English should not be regarded only as the language of the British who ruled over us. It is a world language with a width and range of comprehension which no Indian language has. So it is important for English to be taught to students at all levels."
