Advani's views do not reflect reality: Pakistan

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Jan. 6. ``India's announcement to use nuclear weapons if attacked with biological and chemical weapons signals an important extension of its policy of using nuclear weapons. This is a further evidence that nuclear weapon and the use is very much part of India's strategic policy,''

the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, Aziz Ahmed Khan, said here today. He was answering a question on establishment of a chain of nuclear command by India.

Commenting on the statement by the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, urging international community to put pressure on Pakistan to stop the alleged cross-border movement, he said such an assertion was in contradiction to facts and realities as it existed.

The international community had been appreciating Pakistan's ``excellent cooperation in the fight against terrorism''.

Referring to the recent visa curbs introduced by India for visiting Pakistanis, Mr. Khan said such measures would only create difficulties for the people of the two countries who had divided families and wished to visit them.

Also, such steps would not help improve the situation.

Defusing tension and starting a dialogue were the need of the hour.

About the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf's proposed visit to Russia, he said the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, had invited him to discuss bilateral issues, mutual cooperation and the regional situation.

The dates of the visit were being worked out.

To a question about the Foreign Minister's visit to the U.S., he said, the high-level visit would provide a good opportunity for consultations on important issues.
