Guilty will not be spared in Tehelka case: Phukan

GUWAHATI JAN. 6 . Justice S.N. Phukan, who has been appointed to probe the Tehelka case, today said he would recommend ``action'' against the guilty even if they held high political positions.

``It does not matter if anybody is holding a high political post in the country. If I find, during my investigations, that those top political and powerful people are involved then I will recommend necessary action,'' the retired Supreme Court Judge, told a private TV channel here.

Mr. Justice Phukan said the new assignment was an ``honour'' for him and that he would do justice to the ``sensitive job.''

Asked whether he plans to resign from the post of Chairman of the Assam Human Rights Commission, Mr. Justice Phukan said he was able to handle both the assignments simultaneously.

On the Tehelka Managing Editor, Tarun Tejpal's statement that the news portal would not participate in further investigation by the new panel, he said it would be difficult for him to say anything before examining the case. ``I would not like to comment anything now as I have not yet taken charge and only after I do so the matter would be examined thoroughly. Unless I go and see what is on record it would not be proper for me to comment on anything right now,'' he said. — PTI
