LPG pipeline by April

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Jan. 6. The Union Minister of State in PMO, Vijay Goel, said here today that the Rs. 490-crore LPG pipeline from Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad would be completed by April this year.

Mr. Goel told reporters after visiting Cherlapalli where he met GAIL officials that he was satisfied with the progress of work so far.

The Minister, who participated in the All India Vysya Federation meeting on Sunday, said he had requested the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to rename Nellore district after Potti Sriramulu, freedom fighter who later made the supreme sacrifice in 1952 demanding formation of a separate Andhra State.

Defending his participation in a caste-based convention, he said that the meeting was not aimed at using caste for pushing personal agenda but for the broader social cause. The Vysya community was engaged in wide-ranging social activities like building dharmasalas, schools and colleges.

Mr. Goel, while declining to discuss the nature of his talks with Mr. Naidu at their two rounds of meeting, described the TDP as a reliable ally of the NDA.
