Tourism festival from Jan. 31

ONGOLE JAN. 6. As part of the three-day Prakasam Tourism Festival scheduled to be held from January 31, the Collector, Ramakrishna Karikal Valaven, today released a mini poster depicting the places and persons which will figure prominently in the fete.

The poster printed in multi-colour carries pictures of great poets like Tyagayya, Yerra Pragada who were born in the district and the world famous Ongole breed bull. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu's picture is on the left side and the Marketing Minister, D. Anjaneyulu's right side atop.

The Chief Minister is likely to attend the festival on any one of the days during the three-day festival. The festival will mainly be celebrated at Bhairavakona, Chandavaram, Kothapatnam and Ramayapatnam in a big way. Besides, at all mandal headquarter towns and important places.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Collector said there were several noteworthy places in the district which need to be visited by students in particular and people in general. He called upon the local people to send pictures and information relating to these places to the district tourism officer. A district newsletter would be released soon in which all information would be published, Mr. Valaven added.

As regards the strategy to be adopted to combat the fast approaching severe scarcity conditions in the summer, he said suggestions were being sought from people on implementation of the Centrally-sponsored water scheme--Sajaladhara, provision of fodder and employment.

The administration has embarked on collecting feedback from the rural people regarding the execution and progress of various schemes intended to improve education, health, clean and green and eradication of child labour system. A special study was being made to ascertain whether the assigned lands were in the possession of the actual beneficiaries.

In the ongoing Janmabhoomi programme during the last four days a few number of grievances on the drinking water crisis were aired. As many as 498 new borewells were sunk during the dry spell.
