Students devise novel method to prevent accidents

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA JAN. 6. Two students from the Hyderabad-based All Saints High School have come out with novel methods of using infra red rays and identically polarised vehicles to prevent road accidents that has resulted in deaths of thousands of people every year. Claiming to be their very own "invention'' the leader of the group, Kaushik, says it is now for the engineering scientists and the authorities to study their invention and use the principle for preventing road mishaps in the country.

The invention works on the principle that every vehicle should be fitted with a transmitter and receiver. For instance, if a truck wants to overtake a car, the transmitter in the truck when pressed would send infrared rays which will be received by the receiver present in the car ahead. The rays are received and transmitted to the "dash board'' of the car and simultaneously the horn and a bulb inside the vehicle get activated indicating the desire of the overtaking driver.

In order to give his own nod to the overtaking vehicle, a green light fitted to the rear side of the car is activated with the press of the button by the occupant driver, thus allowing the overtaking of the vehicle smoothly.

The second method involves manufacturing the vehicle chassis with identical polarities (magnetic) to avoid the collision of the vehicle. ``Here you may have a doubt that if two vehicles come near each other, they may repel due to the cross magnetic effect. This happens only when the vehicles are at a low speed. But, the repulsion will not take place, if the vehicles are at varying speed, ''says the "co-inventor'' Vidhyadhar, a class VII student.
