Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
Corporation authorities continued the process of removing posters and banners on the Kowdiar- East Fort road today. Sanitation workers of the Corporation were engaged in cleaning up the road. Clearing the beggars off the main road was no easy task, Corporation officials said. Those who were located at Palayam and various other parts of the main road put up slight resistance but they too were removed in due course. Footpath vendors were removed in the first phase of the operation itself. Following their opposition, the Corporation authorities had sought police help to check violence during the eviction programme. Public address systems fitted at various places in the city are announcing the details of the clean-up drive and issue a warning to litterbugs. According to the Corporation officials, creating awareness among the public was also an important aspect of the programme.
