No experiments

Sir, — The BJP is overwhelmed by its victory in the Gujarat elections. Now the party is gearing up for a `Gujarat experiment' in nine other States which go to the polls shortly. Its attempt to promote Hindutva goes against the secular character of our Constitution. No party has a right to tamper with the basic principles of our Constitution for attaining selfish motives. Parties should focus on the core problems prevalent, which are hampering the socio-economic growth of our nation. It is time we addressed the problems such as poverty, illiteracy and unemployment. Let us not carry out any experiment, which can give rise to socio-religious unrest in the country.

Rukmini Thampi,
New Delhi
