Kidnapped child rescued from a house in Agra
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, APRIL 7. The three-year-old boy, Kiran Kumar, who was
kidnapped by a cook working in his father's fast food outlet at
Sembium was rescued by a city police team from a photographer's
house in Agra.
This brought to an end the 19-day ordeal for the child missing
from March 20. The accused, Rajesh Khanna, was tracked down by
the police in Vellore and on his confession a police team went to
Agra and rescued the child.
It may be recalled, the cook who was working for three months in
the fast food outlet for about three months on the pretext of
buying him chocolates took him away.
The police who were initially in the dark as the culprit had also
given a false name and address with the hotel owner, managed to
identify him by a chance photograph taken by a customer.
Investigation had revealed that the accused had a criminal track
record and was wanted by the police in several cases including
the stabbing of his first wife and child in Tirupathi and
attacking the brother of his second wife at Madurai.
About 40 police personnel were on the job round the clock and
traps were set in different places where the accused was expected
to visit.
When a police team reached Delhi, he managed to escape and went
into hiding in Vellore. However, when police zeroed in on him in
Vellore, he confessed that the child was safe. He had requested
one of his friends to take care of the boy, as he found it
difficult to keep travelling along with him.
Though Rajesh Khanna had a criminal record, police were
confident, that the boy was safe, as he had a ``special
affection'' for the child. Moreover, though he had stabbed his
first child in a fit of rage, he had taken good care of Kiran.
